‘Life is change...and change is pain'. Darren Fisher is not the first artist to depict our craving for love - to sketch our collective desperation - through the paintbrush of musical poetry. What ranks this album with other great works, is the grace of a living philosophy; a vision... both born and ready to be realised. ‘Feathers and Oak Trees' does not limit itself to the daggers of greed or the horror and beauty in death; it is also a celebration of long summer nights playing music, getting high, laughing: embracing the ancient, and all-but-forgotten, gift of life.
My most alive memories resound with Darren in the dingy flats and open fields of Brighton, where we plotted to wake the masses from their sterile dream. This album catapults me back into that majestic frame of mind - which Mr Fisher has always inhabited, and he will continue to radiate universally through his music.
